Murray was admitted to the BC bar in 2001 after articles with a full-service firm, where he completed five Provincial Court trials as sole counsel and was junior counsel on two BC Supreme Court Trials. As a young lawyer, Murray worked at a successful insurance defence boutique in Vancouver, representing clients in numerous chambers applications, dozens of mediations and more Provincial Court trials, and gaining experience in both personal injury law, insurance coverage disputes, as well as commercial and construction issues.
He then moved back to his home in Alberta to work with a large firm as a commercial and insurance defence litigator, completing more trials and representing clients at the Alberta Court of Appeal.
Seeking a broader view of life and legal practice, Murray represented a wide sphere of clients at the Cayman Islands office of the world’s largest offshore law firm, where he acted in financial services litigation, anti-fraud claims and insolvency. Murray’s work during the 2008 – 2009 ‘credit crunch’ included several high-profile claims, as part of larger teams of counsel, operating in a cross-jurisdictional environment.
Returning home to Alberta, Murray represented insurers and a wide range. of business interests in commercial and insurance litigation at a pre-eminent large firm. Throughout the years, Murray frequently saw individuals who were uninformed of their rights being taken advantage of by those with more power and knowledge. Wanting to change that and contribute more to our community in Western Canada, Murray began working for wrongfully injured people and small businesses in 2012.
This led him to establish Resolute Law Group in 2017 with a desire to ensure that individuals, small businesses, and select self-insured entities receive accurate objective advice, a strategic plan for resolution, and strong representation. Murray’s philosophy is that when the interests of our clients are valued above all else, and objective, correct advice is given, Resolute Law Group’s clients will have successful outcomes in their disputes – and this will naturally lead to success for our firm.
Outside of being a lawyer, Murray served with the Canadian Forces for 22 years. In the community, he previously volunteered as Director of the Calgary Highlanders Regimental Association and of Valour Canada. He also served as a Scout Leader for ten years in Northwest Calgary. Murray is an avid amateur triathlete, and a proud finisher of five Ironman Canada triathlons. Murray spends time with his poorly-behaved Labradoodles, Cocoa and Freya, and can be seen damaging the fairways and greens of our lovely City in the Spring and Summer.
